County spelling bee taps five for state event
C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N – that spells Sadie Gruntmeir, the Clear Creek Middle School student who won the 2012 Johnson County Spelling Bee.
Gruntmeir, a seventh-grader, beat out Clear Creek sixth-grader Abby Hulick for the title on Feb. 16 – and won herself entry into the Wyoming State Spelling Bee in
Casper on March 17. Gruntmeir spelled thermos, curtain, perturb, jealousy, animation, telepathic, conjure and fascinating correctly to advance to the state event.
Also going to Casper are Hulick and eighth-graders Hannah Fraley Jack Holt and Maggie Chapin.
Clear Creek teacher and spelling bee coordinator Mike Scarlett said he was pleased with the success of the event, and thanked Susie Berry for pronouncing, Kathy Urruty and Chuck Rinn for judging, Connie Norton for organizing the checkers, and Bessie Dickerson, Joeseph Michel, Mary Gammon, Bob McDowell, Priscilla Baker, Ruthann George, Fay Waugh, Janet Tidball, Joan Rothe, Dave & Deb Sthetzel, Mary Davis, and Collen Payne, who checked the 50-word written test.
Buffalo participants included:
Eight-graders: Bridget Blaney, Hannah Fraley, Livi Glassock, Jack Holt, Colter Mouw and Maggie Chapin.
Seventh-graders: Sadie Gruntmeir, Cassidy Lausen, Shea Musselman, Kayleanne Turner, Emaline Valesquez and Anna Wagner.
Sixth-graders: Abby Hulick, Taylor Black, Trapper Morey, Andrew Snyder, Morgan Durrant and Isabella Grabin.
Fifth-graders: Macy Johnson, Chance Hill, Marc Wodhal, Jeremiah Dalsbo, Cody Milmine and Quinn Kennedy.
Fourth-graders: Mason Moon, Joe Musselman, Ashlee Sweet, Walker Silbernagel, Aaron Gavillet and Kory Roberts.
