In the most-watched primary Tuesday, Mark Gordon, Buffalo rancher and current Wyoming State Treasurer, beat out five other challengers to secure the Republican nomination for governor.
With 99 percent of precincts reporting on Tuesday night, Gordon had captured 36,898 votes or 32.9 percent of the votes cast in the race. Jackson billionaire Foster Friess mounted a late surge, spending over $1 million on the race, but it was not enough as he netted 26.2 percent of the votes. Attorney Harriet Hageman followed in third with 21.2 percent of the vote.
Cheyenne businessman Sam Galeotos was a distant fourth with 12.4 percent of the vote. Dr. Taylor Haynes finished with 5.5 percent and Bill Dahlin with 1.8 percent.
