The Johnson County Sheriff’s office is asking residents keep a look out for a newer model Volkswagen Beetle, burgundy in color, with Montana license plates after the driver attempted to lure children into her car at Lake DeSmet on Saturday, Jan. 25.

A call came into the Johnson County Dispatch Center the afternoon of Jan. 25 from a parent who informed authorities that a woman had attempted to lure his children into her car, according to Johnson County Sheriff Rod Odenbach. The woman is described as wearing blue jeans, a gray sweater and a blue floral bandana. She was driving a burgundy Volkswagen Beetle with Montana license plates.

The incident occurred near the boat dock on the south side of Lake DeSmet, Odenbach said.

According to Odenbach, the woman accused the children of stealing money from her vehicle and then threated the children to get into her vehicle or she would notify authorities of the alleged theft.

The children refused and informed their father of the incident.

Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call, but the suspect left the area in her vehicle before deputies arrived, Odenbach said.

If you have any information regarding the Beetle or the individual described, please call the Johnson County Sheriff’s office at 684-5581.
