Raymond Laverne Tolman passed away peacefully on March 14, 2020 at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.
Ray “Pickles” was born in Worland to Ila (Foreman) and Ernest Yost on March 22, 1934. He was later adopted by Chester “Gray” Tolman. Ila and Gray raised Ray in Ten Sleep, where they operated a dairy. They were also involved with the Tolman Ranch.
Ray graduated from Ten Sleep High School and married Georgia Pense in 1954. He was working construction at the time. Jeffery Gray Tolman was born to them Aug. 13, 1956. Shortly after Jeff’s birth they moved to Midwest where he worked on the Davis Ranch. A few years later he became the ranch foreman for the Gordon Ranch west of Kaycee. Penny Lea Tolman Orchard was born to them Aug. 28, 1963. Ray and Georgia divorced in 1973.
Ray later married his high school sweetheart, Bernadine Lewis Agee, and he gained three stepsons. They were in love all the days of her life. When Ray decided he could no longer work alongside his men, he retired from the Gordon Ranch in 2007. Ray and Bernie became full time snowbirds and moved to Yuma, Arizona. “Bernie” passed away in 2011. He then married Norma Wigren in 2013, and Ray added three more stepchildren into his family. (Penny finally got the sister she always wanted). Norma passed away in the early years of their marriage. Ray spent the remaining years of his life between Yuma and Kaycee. His health deteriorated substantially this past summer. Throughout his life Ray loved hunting and fishing, cowboying, spending time in the Bighorn Mountains, playing cards, drinking whiskey – “a toddy for the body,” and kissing any pretty girl that would let him.
He left behind daughter Penny Orchard (Ken), grandchildren Dusty (Abby), Colt (Annie) and Candi Orchard. Daughter-in-law Sandy Tolman, grandchildren April (Chris) Schomberg, and Toby (Dusti) Tolman. Grandchildren Gavin Agee, Marie McLeod, Nate Agee, Jasmine Erickson, Jessie Agee-balaszi, Trent Agee and Seth Agee. He was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.
Ray was sadly preceded in death by his three wives and son Jeffery.
Burial took place Sunday, March 15, 2020 in the Ten Sleep Cemetery. Memorial services for Ray will be held on June 21, 2020 in Ten Sleep. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
