An open house to celebrate the life of Terrill M. Knifong, 68-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away quietly at his home southeast of Buffalo, will be held by his family at 315 Western Ave. from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 2020. Terrill Max Knifong was born on Sept. 21, 1951 in Kirksville, Missouri to Stillman and Leota (Lambert) Knifong. He grew up and went to school in Browning, Missouri and graduated from Browning High School with the class of 1969. After high school he attended Trenton Junior College where he played baseball for the Trenton Pirates. Terrill transferred to Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri where he received a Bachelor of Science in education. He taught school for one year, and in 1978 he took a job in Montana and was driving his 1968 Corvette north and broke down in Buffalo and decided to stay. He worked for a time at the Occidental and later worked for Dean Smith as a rancher until leasing a place and starting his own ranching operation. Terrill operated Crazy Woman Quarter Horses while raising his family on the ranch. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially watching his grandchildren.
Terrill is survived by his longtime partner of many years Tanya Myers of Buffalo; two sons, Caleb Knifong of Buffalo and Rob Myers and his wife Gwen also of Buffalo; one daughter Callie Munsick and her husband Sam of Buffalo; one brother Dyle Knifong and his wife Debbie of Canyon City, Colorado; two sisters Rinda Gibson and her husband Dan of Las Vegas and Susan Knifong Jones and her husband Lance Winkler of Columbus, Missouri; seven grandchildren and a very special cousin Ken Sayer and his wife Vicki of Washington State. He was preceded in death by his parents.
