Dear Editor,

It is with grateful hearts that the residents and staff of the Veterans’ Home of Wyoming thank Buffalo and Johnson County for the outpouring of community support and generosity we received during our recent lockdown fueled by a call to service from Johnson County Commissioner, Bill Novotny.

The support came in many different forms. We received donations of snacks, soda, cookies and water supplied by families in our community and local businesses, all delivered to our doorstep by our commissioners. We received donations of pizza for the residents and staff which came at a time when we needed a boost. Our veterans received cards and letters to let them know people were thinking of them. Churches and service organizations circled the outside of our buildings with signs and smiles that lifted the spirits of our veterans and staff. Johnson County Healthcare came to our aid by providing nurses when we were in need.

Thank you to those of you who sent cards and presents for the special birthday one of our residents celebrated during this lockdown. He was and is overwhelmed by the amount of mail that he has and is still receiving. A special thank you to Gov. Mark Gordon for taking the time to present a socially distanced Centenarian award, his coin and letter to this veteran.

Thank you to all of you who give your time, talents and donations to the Veterans’ Home of Wyoming. Your thoughtfulness, generosity and kindness through the year enhances the quality of life at the Veterans’ Home of Wyoming.
