Dear Editor,

On May 7, Mayor Shane Schrader declared May 10 as Buddy Poppy Day. This day is set aside to honor veterans and raise money to “honor the dead by helping the living.”

Money collected goes to provide compensation to the veterans who assemble the poppies, provides financial assistance in maintaining state, national and local veterans rehabilitation and service programs and also helps support the VFW National Home for Children.

Members of VFW Auxiliary 2469 and VFW Post 2469 will be around town from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 10. Please show your support of our veterans by donating and wearing your poppy proudly.
