The Buffalo Senior Center would like to share a message with our community. We hope that everyone takes this seriously and we are also asking our community with the utmost respect as this is a politically charged issue. Our message to our community is to please wear a mask in public.
I know there are differing opinions on mask wearing and it seems each political side drives the opinion, but what we are asking is not coming from a political wing or agenda. It is coming as a plea to help protect our most vulnerable community members. This past week we lost another senior to COVID-19 and two more were hospitalized. Our guess is that our community does not realize the alarming number of community members who are seniors, have been diagnosed, hospitalized or have died as a result of COVID-19.
Although there are many seniors who are self isolating, many others are involved in our community. They attend meetings, go to church, sing in the choir, they volunteer for boards and continue to do their civic duty. It’s hard for them to just drop it all and self isolate. If you have been isolated before, you know what I’m talking about, it’s not easy and is detrimental to your mental and physical health.
Please, we implore you, even if you think this pandemic is a hoax, joke or made up, or if you think masks don’t really work, we ask you one question: If wearing a mask in public could potentially save only one life, why wouldn’t you wear one?
