After picking up a blowout win on Thursday against Midwest, the Kaycee High School Buckaroos basketball team looked to carry momentum into Saturday’s game against Upton, but they could not hold their own against the No. 1 Northeast team.

In Thursday’s game, the Buckaroos roundly defeated the Oilers, forcing 37 turnovers and keeping a consistent pace throughout. By halftime, the Oilers were down by 29 points, and the Buckaroos only added to their lead in the second half, winning 56-8.

Although the Oilers may not have had the skill and experience to beat the Buckaroos, the Upton Bobcats proved to be a much more formidable foe. By the end of the first half, the Bobcats had stormed to an early 13-point lead, and they returned to the court after halftime with the same energy and momentum. In the fourth quarter, the Buckaroos managed to outscore the Bobcats by a point, but it was too little, too late and the Bobcat got the 70-45 win.

Top scorers for the weekend were Dylan Fauber with 31 points, Harley Davis with 19 points and Rhys Stafford with 16 points.

The Buckaroos have a busy schedule this week, hosting No. 4 Northeast Arvada-Clearmont on Friday, and then traveling to play No. 3 Southeast Hanna-Elk Mountain on Saturday.
