Kaycee's girls basketball team took on Burlington for the opening game of the state tournament on Thursday morning, March 3, 2022 at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper. The game stayed tight in score from start to finish, with Kaycee making a strong push in the second half as they attempted to steal the game away. Unfortunately Kaycee narrowly lost 39-36 to Burlington to move into the consolation bracket. On Saturday, Kaycee won the consolation bracket over Little Snake River.

Ramirez was hot from the 3-point line in the fourth quarter before she was injured and forced to come out with less than a minute left in the game. Ramirez finished as Kaycee’s leading scorer with 16 points.

Jackie dove again to steal the ball on the next play, during which a Burlington player fell on her and sent her to the sideline for the remainder of the game with a hurt shoulder.

Kaycee High School freshman Cheyenne Elwood screams in celebration of one of Jackie Ramirez’s 3-pointers in the final quarter while head coach Laura Pierson runs down the sideline yelling to the players the court on Thursday morning at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper. All seven players on Kaycee’s roster saw game time during the match up with Burlington. Kaycee narrowly lost in the final few seconds of the game, ending the game at 39-36.
